Albert Street Uniting Church


Brisbane’s spiritual home for over 160 years

 

Located in the middle of Brisbane city, Wesley Mission Brisbane Albert Street Church is a centre of Christian worship, and a congregation of the Uniting Church in Australia. We offer a spiritual heart to all in the city, and outreach to those who come requiring assistance in their present circumstance. We invite and welcome everyone to visit and worship with us in our beautiful, historical building.

The Church is open Monday to Friday, 10.00am to 2.00pm for prayer and reflection, and is also a popular venue for local and international weddings.

A Christian Seder
You are invited to a Christian Seder for Holy Week, on Tuesday 26 March. A meal will be served as part of the celebration.

Thursday 28th March
Maundy Thursday, service at 7.00pm
Since the fourth century, Christians have gathered to mark Maundy Thursday as a time of remembering the Last Supper through the betrayal of Jesus. Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum novum, a new commandment. The emphasis in this service is on the actions and words of Jesus narrated in John 13, including time at the Lord’s table, and the washing of feet as a symbol of building a community of servant hood.
 
Friday 29th March
Good Friday 9.00am
A service where we reflect on the sacred story of Christ’s passion and death.
 
Sunday 31st March
Easter Sunday- Sunlight service at 6.30am. Church services 9am, 11am and 6.30pm.
The joy we experience on Easter Day makes it easier for us to sense that God is creating new ways of being in our world. The message of resurrection joy enables those who know suffering to trust in the mystery of the empty tomb and to continue searching for evidence of life.  Services at 6.00am on rooftop of Wesley House  Sunlight Service, 9.00am & 11.00am, and 6.30pm Services in the Church.

  • 1.15pm half hour service with communion.
Sunday

  • 9.00am Sunday service and Sunday school (followed by morning tea)
  • 11.00am family service
  • 6.30pm evening service followed by supper.
Additional services are held for Christmas, Easter and other special occasions.

Responding to needs within our city

  • The Servant Community
    • supporting the homeless to improve their standard of living and move into accommodation.
  • The Hospitality Community
    • providing a free, three course dinner every Wednesday evening for the lonely or isolated.
  • The Servants on the Margins Training Community
    • training volunteers from the Servant Network and the wider Uniting Church.
