Youth and elderly to benefit from community service programs on the Gold Coast

Youth at risk and the elderly will benefit from enhanced services when Wesley Mission Brisbane (WMB) Gold Coast Service Hub officially launch a new central location at Robina for their eight youth and community service programs, on Friday 7 May at 10am.

WMB Gold Coast Service Hub offers practical youth programs and community care services for the elderly such as support for elderly who want to keep living in their own homes or support for youths who are at risk of homelessness or disengaging from school.

“Because of continuing population growth there has been an unprecedented increase in need and therefore in programs and activities”, said Shane Beacall, Director WMB Gold Coast Service Hub. “WMB is now one of the largest service providers for at risk youth in the Gold Coast local government area. Our Gold Coast based staff has increased from 4 in 2002 to 40 staff across 8 individual programs in 2010”.

The WMB Gold Coast Service Hub building will be officially opened at 10.30am on Friday 7 May. Entertainment will be provided by 55 students in the Mudgeraba Primary State School choir, and Drastic (Drama, Rhythm, Arts, Self Therapy, Inspiration, Creation) an arts and life skills program which uses peer mentor driven education and treatment for young people aged 10 to 17 years also performing.

A representative from the Premier’s office, Councillor Daphne McDonald (Deputy Mayor), local politicians, members from the Gold Coast Government and private businesses will all be attending.

The community is invited to visit the Gold Coast Service Hub which will be open to every one on the day.
